Striving for a high-quality and respected world-class enterprise -- CIMC Group's 40th anniversary celebration conference was successfully held

Over the past four decades from 1982 to 2022, CIMC has been pursuing its dream of becoming champions and has developed itself into a world-class giant from a container manufacturing factory that was established to respond to Chinese initiative of reform and opening up. With its tireless efforts, CIMC has added a glorious chapter to the call for serving the country through industry and thriving the country with practical work.

This year marked the 40th anniversary of CIMC commencing production of containers, and on the evening of September 22, a grand gathering was held in Shenzhen Poly Theatre to celebrate the brilliant achievements CIMC has made over the past four decades. At the gathering, CIMC summarized its development history and successful experiences, and issued a mobilisation order to all CIMC people to “march ahead to a high-quality and respected world-class enterprise” at the starting point of the new journey.

On the same evening, Zheng Hongbo, a member of the Standing Committee of Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, Li Jianhong, former Chairman of China Merchants Group and current member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Hu Jianhua, Director and General Manager of China Merchants Group, Hu Guobin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Shenzhen Capital Holdings Co., Ltd., Zhu Zhiqiang, General Manager of Shenzhen Capital Holdings Co., Ltd. and Vice Chairman of CIMC, relevant departments of Shenzhen, certain directors and supervisors of CIMC, and Huang Tiejun, vice president and secretary general of Shenzhen Listed Companies Association were present there to celebrate the anniversary. Mr. Mai Boliang, Chairman and CEO of CIMC, Mr. Gao Xiang, President of CIMC, Mr. Li Yinhui, Vice President of CIMC, Mr. Li Guiping, CEO and President of CIMC Vehicles, Mr. Huang Tianhua, Vice President of CIMC , Mr. Yu Yuqun, Vice President of CIMC, Mr. Yu Yuqun, Chief Financial Officer of CIMC, Mr. Zeng Gan and other leaders of the Executive Committee, and former chief executives of CIMC like Mr. Zhou Qifang, Mr. Zhao Huxiang, and Mr. Gu Liji participated in the anniversary celebration with tens of thousands of CIMC employees either physically or online.

Blessing and message from leader: Keep up the spirit of the special economic zone in a pioneering way

“As a local enterprise originated, based and grew in Shenzhen, and driven by the corporate culture of self-improvement and pursuit of excellence over the past four decades, CIMC has achieved world champions for its products one after another. CIMC has developed itself into the world-leading supplier of logistics equipment and energy equipment, and become one of representative Chinese industrial enterprises in terms of industrial upgrading and participation in global competition.” At the historical moment when CIMC was celebrating its 40th birthday, Zheng Hongbo, on behalf of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, gave CIMC high recognition and sent his blessings. He expressed his hope that CIMC would continue to uphold the pioneering and persevering spirit of the special economic, and actively integrate itself into the development strategy of Shenzhen so as to create more brilliant achievements, thus making greater contributions to the city’s efforts to accelerate the development of pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

When he was delivering a speech on behalf of China Merchants, Hu Jianhua began his speech by recognizing the 40-year development of CIMC. He said that “Inception of CIMC is the result of reform and opening up, and CIMC thrived on the combination of marketization, spirit of the special economic zone and the hard work. The development history of CIMC is a microcosm of China’s reform and opening up, and the story of CIMC’s entrepreneurship and prosperity is a vivid interpretation of the story of reform and opening up in contemporary enterprises.” He emphasised that China Merchants and CIMC are families out of the same tree as we share the “China Merchants family” and “Shekou gene” and are both witnesses of the reform and opening-up. He also highly affirmed the strength and influence of CIMC as a world-class enterprise, and summarised three factors leading to success of CIMC: the model for implementing mixed ownership, the model for engaging in diverse businesses, and the model for actualizing the concept of serving the country through industry. Finally, he said that China Merchants and CIMC will continue to “mutually empower for mutual success and mutually support for common growth”.

On October 12, 2020, Shenzhen Capital Holdings Co., Ltd. took a stake in CIMC. In the past two years, CIMC unleashed new development vitality by leveraging its advantages with the support of Shenzhen Capital. Hu Guobin  highly affirmed CIMC’s achievements in the speech he delivered on behalf of Shenzhen Capital at the gathering, and he recalled that since it took a stake in CIMC, Shenzhen Capital has been giving full play to the advantages of CIMC’s mixed ownership, working closely with shareholders, highly trusting the management of CIMC, and supporting CIMC to rise to the challenges and forge ahead with determination. In the future, Shenzhen Capital will further empower shareholders of CIMC in terms of strategic synergy, resource import and capital operation, and will work with CIMC to promote national strategy and urban development to develop CIMC into a world-class enterprise. Finally, he wished CIMC to further realise its dream of serving the country through industry and achieve tremendous growth again.

Mobilisation order to strive for a high-quality and respected world-class enterprise

At the celebration ceremony, Mr. Mai Boliang, Chairman and CEO of CIMC, delivered an important speech. First of all, he summarized the journey of stable and long-term development CIMC has made over the past four decades with four “courses”: the course of CIMC participating in and witnessing the great process of reform and opening up, the course of seeking to fulfil the mission of “serving the country through industry and thriving the country with practical work”; the course of struggling to become “world champions” to win global recognition ; and the course of active dedication to social responsibility. He also summarized the deep experience behind CIMC’s steady progress with four “adherences”: adherence to the leadership of CPC, adherence to the modern corporate governance model, adherence to the corporate spirit of “self-improvement and pursuit of excellence”, and adherence to the “people-oriented and common cause”.

Standing at the new starting point of CIMC’s historical development, Mr. Mai Boliang proudly put forward his development vision for the next ten years - “Strive to develop CIMC into a high-quality and respected world-class enterprise”. In this regard, CIMC should achieve the vision by achieving a breakthrough in volume and scale; achieving high-quality volume and scale; and achieving the ever-lasting operation.

Finally, Mr. Mai Boliang called on all CIMC people to continue to uphold the entrepreneurial spirit of self-improvement and pursuit of excellence, actively explore and practice the path of creating a world-class enterprise with Chinese characteristics, and create more brilliant achievements, thus making new and greater contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

A tribute to the role model: an outstanding example of practising the spirit and culture of CIMC

Behind CIMC’s 40 years of strong growth and steady progress is a group of CIMC heroes who have been committed to their original intention and the pursuit of excellence. At this historic moment of the celebration of 40th anniversary of CIMC’s production, the Group recognized the outstanding enterprises and individuals who have made important contributions to CIMC in the past 40 years, so as to remember the glorious history, share the great glory and inspire CIMC colleagues.

Gao Xiang, President of CIMC, read out the “CIMC Decision on Granting the Award for Historical Contribution to the 40th Anniversary of the Commencement of Production”. The commendation is divided into four awards: “Individuals with Outstanding Contributions for the 40th Anniversary of CIMC “, “Enterprises with Outstanding Contributions for the 40th Anniversary of CIMC “, “ Enterprises with Prominent  Contributions for the 40th Anniversary of CIMC “ and “Individuals with Prominent Contributions for the 40th Anniversary of CIMC “

The most important award is the “Individuals with Outstanding Contributions for the 40th Anniversary of CIMC “. The winners of this award are Li Ruiting, Zhao Qingsheng and Liu Xuebin, all of whom are former Vice Presidents of CIMC, and Zeng Beihua, former General Manager of the Capital Management Department. As the award speech says, “ with their commitment to CIMC, they have been moving forward over the past 40 years, and they finally created a remarkable achievement that is worthy of the society, the times and CIMC. “. Moreover, they have also set a spiritual benchmark for the later generations of CIMC like the flag of CIMC.

CIMC people dedicated to the success of common cause

The celebration ceremony of the 40th anniversary of CIMC was also a stage for employees to showcase themselves. In order to celebrate CIMC’s 40th anniversary, cadres and employees from all segments and enterprises of CIMC performed their well-prepared wonderful programs. Through poetry recitation, musical drama, dance and chorus, they not only showed the characteristics of CIMC’s commitment to manufacturing industry, globalization and diversification, but also embodied the original aspiration and dreams of CIMC people to serve the country through industry and thrive the country with practical work. It also conveyed the spirit of “self-improvement and pursuit of excellence” of CIMC people.

The cultural performance is divided into four chapters – Remaining True to Original Aspiration, Dedication, Unity and Ambition, with “59”, “1”, “40” and “500” as the key words, which run through the four decades of development of CIMC: “Survival Amidst Adversity, Moving Toward Champion, Diversified Development, and Transformation and Upgrading”.

CIMC Tianda presented the dance “Flag”, which showed the firm belief of CIMC; the young employees from the headquarters and all businesses interpreted the story of CIMC pioneers’ efforts to seek survival with the musical drama “Glory and Dream”; the dance “Workshop Rhapsody” from Xinhui CIMC showed the enthusiasm of CIMC grassroots workers for work and life; the poem recitation titled “ Serve the Nation Through Industry “ told the story of CIMC people’s commitment to promote the modernization of China’s transportation from the perspective of welders, engineers, technicians and installers of four businesses; CIMC Raffles’ site-specific dance poem titled “ The Pillars of a Great Power “ showed the mission and responsibility of CIMC people to strengthen the country by sea; CIMC Enrico’s global online chorus of “We are the champions” showed the international gene and global operation of CIMC; the song and dance of CIMC Silianda titled “Glorious Years “ showed the romantic feelings of CIMC people; and the multimedia interactive dance of Dongguan CIMC vehicles titled “CIMC Smart Manufacturing” showed the achievements of CIMC smart manufacturing by way of the change between light and shadow.

In the birthday celebration session, employees who joined CIMC from 2022 to 1982 came up to the stage to report to CIMC one by one, during which Mai Boliang slowly came up to the stage and said loudly “I am Mai Boliang, I joined CIMC in 1982”. The unique way of celebration moved and shocked the audience, and

an air of excitement permeated the stage. At this moment, Mai Boliang delivered his speech and blessing with passion, “I am grateful to the great CPC, to the country, to the times, to the people from all walks of life who care and support the development of CIMC, to my family, to the people who work together through thick and thin, share the honour and disgrace, and never leave us, and to the 70,000 CIMC people who work together all over the world and their family members! I firmly believe that the future of CIMC will be even more glorious and brilliant!” The enthusiastic applause resounded throughout the audience.

After that, Mai Boliang and the leaders lit up the 40 digital devices together and raised it up to herald the start of CIMC’s brilliant future.

In 2022, CIMC people stood at a new starting point to strive for the new vision of “high-quality and respected world-class enterprise”, and to materialize this vision, CIMC people present the ceremony made a ritualistic pledge for new journey to send the strongest voice to all CIMC people to strive for the new vision of CIMC’s common cause.

Finally, with the chorus of the familiar melody “Song of CIMC”, the celebration of the 40th anniversary of CIMC came to a successful end.

After the development over the past four decades, CIMC will forge ahead towards the new journey. Over the past 40 years, CIMC has lived up to the favour of the times and the gift of the country, and with the spirit of “self-improvement and the pursuit of excellence”, it has marked a highlight in the course of reform and opening up and the development of Chinese manufacturing. CIMC people will work together in the future to march ahead to a high-quality and respected world-class enterprise!
