CIMC Raffles Wins Second FLNG EPC Contract with Golar LNG

Recently, CIMC Raffles has signed an EPC contract with Golar LNG for a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) production, storage and offloading unit. This represents the second MK II FLNG project CIMC Raffles will build for Golar LNG, marking the deepening of their partnership.

In 2024, CIMC Raffles entered into its first partnership with Golar LNG, securing the contract to build Golar's first MK II FLNG unit and officially expanding into the FLNG sector. The FLNG unit for this project is converted from an existing LNG carrier, with a rated annual production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes of LNG. During project execution, CIMC Raffles pioneered the use of construction techniques such as twin-barge floating cutting for large vessels. While ensuring construction quality and site safety, the company effectively reduced construction timelines and kept project costs under control, garnering full recognition from the client.

The successful progress of the lead vessel project has laid a solid foundation for deeper cooperation between the two parties. Serial construction of identical units and parallel construction at the same shipyard enable the full reuse of proven technical solutions, construction methodologies and management systems, delivering strong project synergies. For CIMC Raffles, this partnership will further accumulate expertise in high-end FLNG equipment construction, further strengthening its capabilities in design and R&D, supply chain coordination, on-site construction and full-lifecycle project management, and continuously cementing its core competitiveness in high-end offshore engineering equipment. For Golar LNG, this established, stable partnership, combined with a standardized construction system and strong delivery track record, will effectively ensure the construction quality and delivery efficiency of the new project.

Moving forward, CIMC Raffles will work closely with Golar LNG and its design partner Black & Veatch, drawing on the proven expertise gained from the first MK II project. It will harness the synergy benefits of serial construction of identical units, maintain strict control over project safety, quality and milestone schedules, and deliver the project steadily and efficiently.
